Hugh Germaine was fit and bearded.
His bunk was small and ever crowded
As he sailed city to city.

With nervous hands Hugh fumbled with plans
Next port two weeks away.
“Like a ballast leak, he’ll sink in a week,”
That’s what the crew did say.
Heavenly fast, the two weeks passed,
The day was fair and fine.
He portaged with crew, then off walked Hugh
Over Pier 39.
